Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic therapy which aims to treat the whole person by helping to restore the harmony of mind, body and spirit.

The origins of Reflexology date back to ancient Egypt, India and China. It wasn't until 1913 when Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as 'zone therapy'. In the Eunice Ingham developed this zone theory further to what is known as Reflexology. she discovered that applying pressure to certain areas of the feet had a beneficial effect on certain organs of the body.

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the hands and feet, which correspond to all parts of the body.

Treatment involves a method of thumb and finger stimulation by applying gentle but firm pressure to the reflex areas on the feet and/or hands.

Reflexology is safe for most people. It is important to discuss any relevant medical history with your therapist as certain health conditions may be unsuitable for treatment or the treatment may have to be adjusted. (Please consult your therapist for further details).

Modern day life with it's pressures of work, home and family life, tend to present situation upon situation in which the possibility of becoming stressed is ever present.

It is long-term stress which can be harmful to our bodies. Reflexology helps to de-stress our bodies, which often leads to an increased level of self-awareness and an ability to cope.

Reflexology can aid the body's ability to achieve an overall balance and is ideal for preventative health care.

The potential health benefits from Reflexology can include:

A feeling of deep relaxationA calm and soothed mind The relief of stress and tension Improved blood and lymph circulationA stimulated immune systemIncreased energy levels A normalising of body functioningA general sense of well being

An initial consultation, which includes medical history is taken. For a foot reflexology treatment, you will be placed in a comfortable reclined position with your bare feet raised. As the reflexes are worked all responses are noted as they are a guide to where there are imbalances and where attention should be focused.
